European organizations need help managing their cybersecurity. With a threat landscape constantly developing, threats becoming more difficult to detect, and an expanding regulatory landscape, that may come as no surprise. In fact, 23% of organizations that manage security on their own today consider outsourcing.

To help discover how MSSPs can capture business opportunities, Logpoint surveyed more than 1,762 senior decision makers and technology influencers in leadership, technology, and security roles across Europe on what excellence in managed security services looks like.

MSSP customers driven by access to expertise

MSSP customers primarily seek external cybersecurity management due to a lack of expertise, with 60% citing missing skills and 48% struggling to recruit talent. They value MSSPs for access to specialized knowledge and advanced technology to stay protected. Cost efficiency is another key driver, with 53% outsourcing to reduce training, hiring, and infrastructure costs, freeing up internal resources. Additionally, 30% outsource to shift accountability, easing compliance burdens and meeting cyber insurance requirements.

Customers seek various management levels

Most customers prefer MSSPs to fully manage their security operations, with 36% seeking end-to-end management for threat detection and compliance. Another 35% outsource implementation to MSSPs for help with planning, configuration, and deployment. Meanwhile, 29% look to MSSPs for advice on selecting the right security solutions, often acting as resellers or consultants.

Quality of service is customers’ primary selection criterium

Quality is the top priority for customers selecting an MSSP, with 46% ranking it as the most important factor. Reputation follows at 19%, while price comes third at 12%. Other considerations include service breadth (11%), influence over technology choices (9%), and provider location (3%). MSSPs collaborate closely with technology vendors to enhance service quality, streamline onboarding, and improve threat detection.

MSSPs want reliable technology

MSSPs prioritize security solutions that effectively manage and mitigate incidents (63%) and demonstrate proven effectiveness (62%). Compliance is also key, with 62% valuing adherence to GDPR and local regulations and 57% prioritizing data storage within EU jurisdiction. Keeping up with cybersecurity trends and technology is very important to 60%, reflecting the evolving threat landscape.

MSSPs want dedicated solutions

European MSSPs prioritize dedicated security solutions over hyperscale technology suites, with 93% valuing tailored solutions and the ability to scale or adapt. While hyperscalers offer cost efficiencies, they come with vendor lock-in and limited customization. Strong vendor collaboration is essential to effectively meeting specific customer needs and advising on security solutions.

Seizing the growth opportunities

MSSPs can capture business opportunities driven by skill shortages and the search for cost efficiencies. To stand out, MSSPs must focus on delivering value, freeing up customer resources, and providing strong protection.
